ERYKAH BADU AND JANELLE MONAE PERFORM AT THE BEACH ON GOVERNOR'S ISLAND

Erykah Badu performed at the beach on Governor’s Island in New York on Tuesday night, as part of her 4th World War tour. Word is her new album, New Amerykah, Part II (Return Of The Ankh), will be out before the end of year. Janelle Monáe, The Grammy-nominated singer also performed and spoke about her deal with Sean “Diddy” Combs, whose Bad Boy label signed her in 2007.

Monae says her deal with Bad Boy isn’t the traditional label-artist kind. ''It’s not like, artist discovered by man, artist belongs to man, she says. It’s a partnership. He’s not involved in writing any songs or producing or anything, she says of Diddy’s role. He’s just like an endorser. He really loves what we’re doing as a company and as a group of artists. He trusts my ears and that’s inspiring.''
