About to BLOW! Which Hennessy Artistry artist will come out on TOP?

The headliner, MI with the contestants - L to R - Blaise, Ice Prince, Mo'Cheddah, Bez, Jimmy Flames

Team 1 - Bez & Cobhams

Team 1

The Contestant: Bez
Born Emmanuel Bezhiwa Idakula, in Jos, Nigeria, ‘Bez’ grew up as a musical child, absorbing every bit of music around him and transmitting it through his beloved instrument – the guitar. He pursued an undeniable passion for music in college, and honed his guitar skills day by day to produce one of the most remarkable playing styles.
Tagged as “the next big thing” by the Guardian and Thisday newspapers in 2008, his style can be described as a hybrid of jazz, soul, and world music – a really eclectic sound he terms ‘alternative soul’. Though different from the ever-popular ‘afro hip-hop’ genre, Bez believes the quality of his music will carve a niche for itself and take him to greater heights.

The Producer: Cobhams
Cobhams Asuquo likes to say that his music career started when as a child he used to puff his cheeks to play the 12-bar blues. Today, he is known for producing some of the finest artistes in Nigeria. Noteworthy among these artistes is the Nigerian soul-singing sensation, Asa, whose 2007 debut album became an international hit. In addition to producing the album, Cobhams wrote and co-wrote several of its hits songs. In 2005, Cobhams signed on to Sony ATV London as a songwriter. After working as Head of Audio Productions at a local label, Questionmark Entertainment, he set up his own recording facility in 2006. He is CEO/ Head of Productions of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions), an all-encompassing entertainment company that discovers, nurtures and exposes great talents. Cobhams has won multiple local and international awards for his creative and entrepreneurial contributions to the Nigerian music industry.
Team 2 - Mo Cheddah and Knighthouse

Team 2

The Contestant: Mo’Cheddah
Modupe-Oreoluwa “Mo’Cheddah” Oyeyemi Ola describes herself as a “new-age African woman”. Already labeled by some as the hottest female artiste in a long time, her versatility in both rapping and singing have earned her the titles ‘The Hip-Pop Princess’ and ‘The Swagger Diamond’. Mo, who grew up in Lagos, began working toward a career as a rap artiste at the tender age of 12. After the passing of her supportive beloved father when she was age 15, she committed herself to a demanding double life as both a Creative Arts student at the University of Lagos and a hip-hop artiste. Mo has since gone from strength to strength, recording tracks with heavyweights like M.I., Saucekid, Kel, Tha Suspect and many more on Vol.1 of the Knighthouse Street Scriptures Album in 2008 – a laudable feat for an 18 year old.
Mo is currently putting the finishing touches to her debut album, which will be released later in 2009. The album is being produced by Knighthouse, who first met and nurtured Mo when she was aged 12, and will include beats from prolific producers like Dr. Frabs, X-O and Jesse Jagz, as well as collaborations with M.I., Terry tha Rapman and more.

The Producer: Knighthouse
Knighthouse is the brainchild of a dynamic trio of high impact creative individuals – Aderogba ‘Rogba’ Arimoro, Lanre ‘Sabre’ Oladimeji and Temitope ‘Othello’ Gomez. Together they established Knighthouse in October 2006, driven by the desire and hunger to change the face of music production in their environment. Voted ‘Team of the Year’ at the 2009 Future Awards, Knighthouse forms strategic partnerships with independent young people of various talents. The team has produced songs for a range of artistes including Terry Da Rapman, Kel, Mode 9, Ill Bliss, Rooftop MCs, and KB of the Trybesmen, and is now working on The Knighthouse Street Scriptures project.

Team 3 - Blaise and Mr Daz

Team 3

The Contestant: Blaise
Obafunke “Blaise” Martin-Luther is a rapper, lyricist, composer, spoken word poet and even a producer in her own right. With musical influences spanning from Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest and Tupac Shakur, to Bob Marley and Fela Kuti, it’s no wonder that this young woman has earned the aliases ‘The Scorcher’ and ‘The Torch Bearer’. A meeting with Eldee, front man of the hip-hop group, The Trybesmen, in 2002, proved to be a turning point for Blaise who was included later in the same year as part of the ‘Da Trybe’ collective on the hit single “Oya”. Soon afterwards her singles, “The Definition” and “Bragging Rights” (a collabo with former Da Trybe mate, Freestyle), earned top spots on several radio stations across the country, leading to a number of Hip Hop World Awards nominations for the young artiste. Blaise has composed and produced music for television and theatre productions, and also featured in MTV Base’s Advance Warning in 2008.
Her next move is the release of her album ‘Delivery Report’ which features herself, Cobhams and Jonah the Monarch on production, and a collaboration with M.I. The album will be released on her label – The Beat Cellar.

The Producer: Mr. Daz

Mr. Daz is the force behind the record and production company, Nuverge, which has its roots in a range of genres including hip-hop, R&B and classical music. His collaboration with the artiste Faze on “Tattoo Girls” led to a series of other dazzling productions for top Nigerian artistes, most notably “Collabo” by Deebee. Immersed in music from as early as 16 when he performed with the gospel hip-hop band ‘AFXC’, Mr. Daz is a trained musical theorist and sound engineer – and one with a long-running career as a classical chorister to his credit. Mr Daz has produced hit records for a variety of artists including Ecetera, Slam, Terry tha Rapman, Ruffman, Ego, Blaise, Illbliz, Nyore, Ksho and many more.
Team 4 - Jimmy Flames & Dokta Frabz

Team 4

The Contestant: Jimmy Flames Jimmy (a.k.a Damola Sonupe) is the premier artist on the label – N’sayne Entertainment – run by Dokta Frabz. He has lived in Nigeria, Ireland and Guyana in the Caribbean, where he performed with rock groups and at talent shows, worked as a TV presenter and radio host, whilst also honing his rap skills. His experiences in the Caribbean and Europe, he feels, bring something new to the Nigerian music scene and make him more versatile – especially when combined with the stellar production of his long-time friend Dokta Frabz. Jimmy’s depth and range as an artist is reflected in the spectrum of genres present on his debut album – rap/hip-hop, Afro hip-hop, dancehall and rock.

The Producer: Dokta Frabz

Dokta Frabz’s philosophy in life is “If you can’t be good, then be bad”. Funny, adventurous and dexterous, he is known for a versatility in production that allows him to switch genres with ease, between styles of music of his choosing. Frabz grew up listening to Timbaland, Dr Dre and Dark Child but firmly believes in the indigenous music industry here in Nigeria. He runs N’sayne Entertainment and is excited about Jimmy Flames who he describes as vibrant, talented and diligent. The line-up of artistes he has worked with include Durella, Weird MC, Shank, D’banj and Kween.
Team 5 - Ice Prince & Jesse Jagz

Team 5

The Contestant: Ice Prince
Ice Prince has been described as the “Crown Prince of Hip-Hop”. The lyricist and Jos-native (born Panshak Zamani), cites his musical influences as Nigerian artistes M.I. and Jesse Jagz alongside Notorious B.I.G, Rakim, Jay-Z, Common, Talib Kweli and Kanye West. In 2004 his debut single, ‘Extraordinary’, hit the airwaves in Jos, propelling him to instant fame in the city. Prior to that, his deft lyrical delivery on M.I.’s hit single, ‘Blaze’, also featuring Jesse Jagz, earned him the nickname “the lyrical miracle”. He has since collaborated with other artists like Dekunle Fuji, Banky W, Kel, Gino, Terry Tha Rapman, Sauce Kid, Djinee, El Dee and Naeto C. Ice Prince has performed at the Hip Hop World Awards, Rhythm Unplugged and Thisday International Music and Fashion Festival among others. His debut album, on the award-winning Chocolate City Music label, is due for release in early 2010.

The Producer: Jesse Jagz
Jesse Jagz has gone from playing the drums at age 7, forming dance groups and gospel groups, to becoming a multi-award winning producer and well-respected artiste in his own right. His production credits include M.I., Mode9, Banky W, Majek Fashek, Ruby, Ice Prince, Faze, Djinee, Kel, Shank, Tosin Martins, Sasha and a host of others. Jesse has represented Nigeria at leading international music festivals, and has opened phenomenal shows for the likes of Jay Z, Rihanna, Usher and Beenie Sigel. Past solo hit singles include Bend Down Low, Sugar Cane Baby and The Greatest, while his newest singles Wetin De and Pump It Up are currently topping charts across the country.

HOW TO BE ROMANTIC WITH FOOD

Have a plate engraved with a message for the one you love without them knowing about it. When you take them out to dinner, ask the waiter to serve their meal on that plate.

Wrap up a small gift for your sweetheart and put it in his/her favorite box of cereal.

Call a restaurant where your love lives and have them deliver a nice meal to him/her.

Surprise your sweetheart one day when he/she expects you to be at work with a picnic lunch at a local park.

Make your love breakfast in bed and serve it with a rose, a love poem and a sweet kiss.
You can make it extra special by feeding it to him/her.

Cook dinner in your fireplace. Eat and enjoy the evening in front of it with no distractions other than a sweet romantic music playing in the background.

Make some heart shaped sugar cookies and decorate them. Then leave them on your sweethearts passenger seat in their car, so they go to work knowing how much they are loved.

Go to the beach and bring a blanket and a radio. Sit on the blanket while feeding each other chocolates or fruits, with some soft music playing. Then tell your mate how you feel about them, while holding hands and walking in the sand.

Make love dishes which are designed to romantically inspire your partner. They symbolize love and have an aphrodisiac effect.

NEW ARTIST: MASSPIKE MILES (NEW SINGLE) - LOVE DRUNK FEAT RICK ROSS PLUS BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO FOOTAGE

MASSPIKE MILES THE FIRST ARTIST TO BE RELEASED UNDER RICK ROSS'S NEW MUSIC LABEL MAYBACH MUSIC IS AN RNB ARTIST THAT HAILS FROM BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS AND IS ALSO ONE HALF OF THE PRODUCTION CREW THE TRACK DEALERS. WE'RE DEFINITELY FEELING THE NEW SINGLE AND FROM THE BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE FROM THE VIDEO SET, IT LOOKS LIKE THE VIDEO IS GONNA BE PRETTY GOOD.. CHECK OUT THIS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BELOW WITH MILES VIA HIPHOPDX.COM

Early Beginnings: Well to be honest, I initially wasn’t into singing. I was into Biz Markie [click to read], Run-DMC, and others; that’s who I was listening to. But one day I was at the Boys & Girls Club and they was doing a talent show and singing Tevin Campbell’s 'Tomorrow' with a lady teaching it. She heard me and said, ‘Wow, you should sing this.’ From that first week of singing, I gained a lot of attention because I was able to do what grown folks could do. So I did the talent show, made a couple different moves, and by the time I was 11, I had a major deal on Warner Brothers Records. I was in a group called Perfect Gentlemen, kind of like a boy band, directed by Maurice Star, who also produced for us.

I had a rude awakening at a young age. I understood what it meant to be a professional at a young age. So as I grew older, and developed other traits musically, such as producing, I always look back on my experiences as a young kid coming up. I learned a lot man. It definitely helped out to where I’m at right now because a lot of the things I’m going through now I had already been through as a youngster.

On His Label Life 4 Life:I have an artist right now, Smoke Bulga, who just dropped his music video on MTV featuring Jim Jones [click to read] called 'Money On My Mind,' which I produced. I got another crew called Rushya, who’s heavy on the Boston underground scene. I’m going hard with those guys and that’s who I’m working on right now. As far as writers and producers, I’m always open for more talent.

His Mixtape The Pursuit Of Happiness: The thing is what I gave to the people [on that mixtape] I felt that they deserved. Nobody really knew who I was, so I felt like, if I’m going to interrupt these people’s lives with my music, why not give them something feasible, something with substance? Let me show off some of the beats I’ve done over the last year. I got Shawty Lo on there, and I could have sold that beat. I know Fabolous [click to read] and T-Pain [click to read] are on there too. But at the end of the day, I felt like people needed that to understand who I was musically.

On The Struggle: My album is really conceptual. My music needs to have substance and meaning, because that’s what I’m a fan of. You can expect to hear my struggle, my strife, my pain, my agony, my love, my ups and my downs, and most importantly, real stories. I want to captivate your thoughts with my music. The first single is called 'Luv Drunk,' featuring Rick Ross [click to read] and produced by StreetRunner. I also got [Carol City Cartel] on the album, Smoke Bulga and Rushya as well. You might hear [Lil] Wayne [click to read] too. As far as other people being on my album, I don’t have a problem with that as long as it fits the build. And the album’s gonna have about 12-14 records.

Giving Back To The Community:I just started the Masspike Miles Music Fund, basically to start music programs within Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs across America, starting with Massachusetts and its surrounding areas. I also started a diabetes fund because I grew up around diabetes; every morning my grandma took an insulin shot. As I got older I began to learn more about diabetes through my family members and how much it affects people’s lives. So I started the fund in dedication to my nana, who’s 90 years old and still kickin’ it. I’m doing things like that right now to expand Boston, Massachusetts and the New England area as a whole.

Final Thoughts:What I can say is that I’m gonna give people the best music I can possibly make. They’re gonna hear something that hasn’t been done in a long time. They’re gonna see a person that is a chameleon as far as the music industry goes. Every music video and every song I do will be an underlying statement to the people that I am music, with a capital M.

2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

The new Rolls-Royce Ghost serves to demonstrate that everything is relative. While the Ghost is less large and massive then the Phantom, at 17.7 feet long it is by no means small. In spite a slightly smaller displacement at 6.6-liters, the Ghost's all-new V12 engine takes advantage of the latest technology that it afforded to it by being part of the BMW family to produce far more power than the Phantom. Two turbochargers and direct fuel injection allow the new engine to produce 563 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque.

A look inside tells that unlike the Phantom this is a car meant to appeal as much to the driver as the rear seat passengers. The more supportive front seats and thicker rimmed steering wheel imply a driver might actually want to take advantage of the 4.7 second 0-60 acceleration.

But this is of course a Rolls so rear seat occupants are still coddled in a lounge style seat with power closing coach doors. Within the doors themselves, the Ghost retains the umbrellas found in the Phantom so that no one ever has to get wet. The Ghost is expected to be priced between €200,000 and €300,000 before taxes when it goes on sale

DISTRICT MINE BY BELLANAIJA

Ola HudsonThe subject of this iconic Dewars whiskey advert is non other than fashion icon; Ola Hudson. Ola was married to famous artist Anthony Hudson, Ola (of Nigerian descent) designed and tailored outfits for celebrities while Anthony (of English descent) worked as an illustrator and designed album covers for such stars as Neil Diamond and Joni Mitchell.
Ola was best known for her innovative boutique on the Sunset Strip called “Skitzo” and her work with former lover David Bowie for his film: “The Man Who Fell to Earth”. She also designed and tailored outfits for John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters and many others. Ola was an integral figure in the uber cool sunset strip rock scene and her style is widely credited for directly influencing the style and image of modern rock music. Ola sadly lost her battle against lung cancer at the age of 62.

Slash
One of the most recognisable faces in the world today belongs to former Guns. N Roses guitarist Slash. Slash is widely credited as being one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. In the course of his career Slash created some of the greatest guitar riffs ever recorded. His work on the Guns n Roses mega hit “Sweet Child of Mine” propelled their debut album “Appetite for Destruction” to sales in excess of twenty million copies; making it one of the highest selling debut records of all time (Notable mention: November Rain, Paradise City, Welcome to The Jungle and many others.)

Slash and Ola
Slash the son of fashion icon Ola Hudson worked with Michael Jackson on a number of projects namely Black or White and Give In To Me on the Dangerous album; Morphine on the Remix album Blood on The Dance floor; D.S on History and privacy off the Invincible album. He has also worked with legends such as Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. He is also a playable character in the game Guitar Hero 111 Legends of Rock.

Ruby Hammer
Many celebrities such as Madonna and undoubtedly some readers are fans of the makeup line; Ruby and Millie. What I find rather interesting is that co-owner of the line Ruby Hammer was born in and spent the first twelve years of her life in Nigeria.

Hugo Weaving
In the year 1960, a British couple celebrated the arrival of a baby boy at the University Teaching Hospital in Ibadan Nigeria. Little did they know that their son would star in six two of the highest grossing trilogies in cinema history. Hugo; starred in The Lord of The Rings trilogy, The Matrix trilogy, Transformers, cult favourite The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the desert, V for Vendetta and a host of others. Hugo has won a number of awards in a varied and successful career. Imagine that, Agent Smith is Nigerian by birth.

Paul McCartney at Emi studios in Lagos, Nigeria
Yes the same Paul McCartney from the Beatles recorded the album “Band on The Run” with his group; Wings in Nigeria. Wings worked with Nigerian musicians and hung out at Fela’s Shrine initially. Mcartney fondly remembers shedding tears of joy watching the great man perform on stage. It wasn’t honky dory for long as Paul had a famous altercation with the King of Afrobeat himself.

Paul McCartney and theWings
Band on the run was McCartneys greatest post beatles album. It was voted at number of the 100 greatest British albums of all time and Rolling Stone magazine placed it at number 418 out of the 500 greatest albums made. Yes it was recorded in Lagos.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers
This Legendary rock band credits Fela Kuti as one of their primary influences. According to band member: Flea “Fela’s music was trance inducing”. So taken were they by the music that they once released a track called ‘Fela’s Cock’ in honour of the mans sexual prowess.

Flea

Flea was spotted at the shrine last year, during ‘Felabration’ celebrating the life of the legend.

James Brown
James Brown toured Nigeria in the early seventies and a trip to the shrine had James Brown enraptured. Legend has it that James Brown had his arranger watch and make notes of Fela’s movement and stage craft, so as to incorporate them in his act.

Bootsy Collins
According to Bootsy, who was the bassist of the band: “Fela’s band was the funkiest cats” he had heard in his life. He said that they were totally “wiped out” by the sheer bodacity of the Africa 70 band.

So I liked this article so much that I had to re post it here on our site. I too saw the District 9 movie and was disappointed in the way Nigerians were being portrayed in the movie... I also posted the Sony ad that made a negative comment about Nigerians.. These perceptions do lead to a negative stereotype that affect all Nigerians whether it be true or not... There are definitely a number of Nigerians out there that are not representing our nation in the best light. However that is also true for every other nation or country. When I saw this article I thought it did a good job of showing some important historical facts about our great nation Nigeria and how we have affected the entire globe positively in so many different ways... I hope the article proves to be enlightening and also informative.. Enjoy
